Demand response

How willing are businesses to change the way they use electricity to reflect a low-carbon electricity supply? This is what the demand response trial aims to find out.

Demand response

Demand response is a way of modifying consumer demand for electricity, primarily by offering financial incentives. The idea is to encourage users to consume less energy during peak hours, thereby allowing power companies to manage the supply more efficiently.

About the trial

We are establishing demand response contracts with industrial and commercial customers to learn to what extent different demand response initiatives can influence customers to minimise periods of ‘peak demand’, helping to reduce the cost and carbon footprint of running the electricity network.
